Case study: visual identity, messaging and website design

Giving a provocative idea a clear and emotionally intelligent home

The Motherhole holds gatherings around three territories: Mother, Eros and Crone. The language is direct and deliberately refuses the polished clichés often used when speaking about women’s bodies, desire, ageing and care.

My role: Strategy, copy, brand identity, graphic design, website design and build, and integrations.

The challenge

The website needed to feel bold without becoming confusing, and intimate without becoming vague. Each realm had to retain its own meaning while visitors still understood how the three belong together and what actually happens at a gathering.

What I brought together

I used strong editorial pacing, a distinctive visual atmosphere and a clear three-part structure. Visitors first meet the larger idea, then move into the realm that speaks to their current experience. Practical descriptions of the gathering method provide reassurance without diluting the voice.

What the website now enables

  • Visitors can quickly understand the difference between Mother, Eros and Crone.
  • A challenging subject feels intentional, contained and trustworthy.
  • Event invitations and email sign-up have a clear emotional context.
