Case study: complex functionality and digital ecosystem
One digital home for an institute, event space, library, course and shop
Sensual Institute brings together research, in-person gatherings, an encyclopedia, guided experiences, books and longer learning journeys. Each part has a different job, but visitors still need to feel that they have entered one coherent world.
My role: Strategy, research and authorship of every article in the Sensual Encyclopedia, copy, brand identity, graphic design, website design and build, and integrations.
The challenge
This is the kind of project that can easily fracture into separate event tools, sales pages, course platforms, libraries and login areas. That creates friction for visitors and makes the organisation look smaller and less established than the work really is. The subject matter also requires an unusual balance of intimacy, clarity and trust.
What I brought together
I organised the ecosystem around distinct visitor intentions: explore ideas, find an event, begin a guided experience, understand the methodology, buy a book or enter a protected participant area. Research content, event listings, testimonials, audio, products and calls to action share one visual and verbal language.
I researched and wrote every article in the Sensual Encyclopedia, shaping the editorial structure as well as the individual entries.
What the website now enables
- People can enter through the part that interests them without losing the larger context.
- Events, content, products and learning experiences strengthen one another.
- A complex body of work feels held, credible and intentional rather than scattered across tools.
