Case study: small website and brand atmosphere
A small, strange and welcoming website that lowers the barrier to joining
Future Ancestor Club is for people who want to try writing, drawing, voice or embodied play, including the ones who would never call themselves creative. The small website needed to lower that threshold. It could be strange, playful and still make someone feel they are allowed in.
My role: Strategy, copy, brand identity, graphic design, website design and build, and integrations.
Make experimentation feel open
Experimental spaces can easily sound exclusive or overly artistic. The people who would benefit most may assume they are not talented, confident or “creative enough” to belong.
A small site with a whole atmosphere
I kept the structure deliberately light and let the language do the important work. The copy removes pressure: no talent, confidence or certainty required. The visual atmosphere signals play, curiosity and protected weirdness. Visitors understand the spirit of the club without being buried in rules.
What does a small project need to feel like a whole world? I wrote about the pieces of visual identity.
For the person hovering at the door
The strategic question was who might want this experience yet assume it is for someone else. We found the language that releases some of that pressure, then built an identity around curiosity rather than performance. The invitation matters more here than a long explanation of every session.
Make the invitation feel possible
Future Ancestor Club is experimental, but the site cannot assume every visitor already calls themselves creative. I used language and structure that make writing, drawing, sound and embodied play feel approachable without over-explaining the experience.
Give the club its own atmosphere
The identity leaves room for curiosity and a little protected weirdness. It comes from the people and purpose behind this club, with enough consistency that the small site can feel like a whole place rather than a collection of event notices.
